Tom Brady is seen as the undisputed greatest of all time in the history of the NFL.

Tom Brady's status as the NFL's greatest quarterback of all time could soon be under threat, according to his former Patriots teammate Adam Vinatieri.

The retired kicker told TMZ that whilst Brady's seven Super Bowl victories remain the benchmark, Patrick Mahomes is approaching something unprecedented.

"I've always said, Tom's got seven Super Bowls and until somebody knocks – does something that he hasn't, he's still the man, right?" Vinatieri said.

"But this, we're getting to something that even the great Tom Brady... has not done."

Mahomes stands on the brink of NFL history as he prepares for Super Bowl LIX against the Philadelphia Eagles on 9 February in New Orleans.

With a victory, the 29-year-old Chiefs quarterback would secure his fourth Super Bowl title.

More significantly, Kansas City would become the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls in the modern era, surpassing even the achievements of the 1965-67 Green Bay Packers.

This feat would be particularly remarkable as no team has captured three straight Lombardi Trophies in the Super Bowl era.

Brady's seven Super Bowl rings remain unmatched in NFL history, setting a formidable target for any challenger.

Meanwhile, Mahomes could potentially pick up his fourth ring before his 30th birthday.

The contrast in age is particularly striking, as Brady was already 37 when he secured his fourth Super Bowl victory in 2014.

Brady would go on to achieve the remarkable feat of winning three more Lombardi Trophies in his 40s, including one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers against Mahomes and the Chiefs.

Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana sees Mahomes as the only current player capable of claiming the mantle of greatest quarterback ever.

"The things he does and is able to do are so different than what any other quarterback does who's out there," Montana said.

Montana's endorsement carries particular weight, having won four Super Bowls himself with the San Francisco 49ers before being traded to Kansas City in 1993.

With Super Bowl LIX just days away, Mahomes faces a pivotal moment in his quest for NFL immortality.

A victory over the Eagles would not only secure an unprecedented third straight Super Bowl, but also put him more than halfway to Brady's record of seven rings.

At just 29 years old, Mahomes would have potentially another decade or more to chase Brady's legacy, having already accomplished something his predecessor never managed - a Super Bowl three-peat.
