The seven-time world champion has received permission from snooker chiefs

Ronnie O'Sullivan has been breaking a snooker rule in every match he has played in recent months.

The Rocket will again wear trainers for Sunday's World Grand Prix final against Judd Trump as he battles an ongoing foot problem.

Snooker players have long been told they must wear smart, formal shoes during matches.

However, O'Sullivan has been donning a more casual attire since the UK Championship last year.

It seems to be helping his performances, having won the first two Triple Crown events this season.

He revealed last November that he is suffering from plantar fasciitis, a problem that affects his heel.

He told Eurosport: "I've got plantar fasciitis, which is, the easiest way to explain it is it's like a bruise on your heel.

"So when you go to put your foot down, it's really sore. Leather-soled shoes just absolutely batter my feet to pieces.

"I've had to resort to getting some really big old soles on them, just to sort of give my foot a rest, basically."

O'Sullivan was spotted wearing the chunky trainers again at the Masters earlier this month.

During the final, six-time world champion Steve Davis revealed O'Sullivan had to get permission from snooker chiefs.

Davis said on commentary: "He's been struggling with some kind of foot injury so has been given permission to wear training shoes."

O'Sullivan triumphed over Ali Carter at Alexandra Palace to win a record-extending eighth title.

Ahead of the final, he revealed he is still struggling with the problem.

O'Sullivan said he is barely able to walk in the smarter shoes that other players wear.

He said: "I've got a bad foot so I'm just trying to keep these on so my feet don't hurt.

"They get a bit sore otherwise.

"They're alright in these trainers but when I wore my shoes the other day, I could barely walk.

"It's quite painful yeah."

O'Sullivan has not only been battling a foot injury of late.

He taunted his rivals following the semi-final win over Shaun Murphy at the Masters, claiming they still can't beat him even though he is suffering from has several physical issues.

O'Sullivan said: "I don't feel that old. I know my age is but I feel young in my mind, I feel young when I'm round the table.

"I feel a lot younger around the table than I do when I'm playing these young players, but they look old!
