Reeva Steenkamp's mother has issued a stark warning about Oscar Pistorius's new girlfriend, insisting the convicted murderer is "still a danger to women".

June Steenkamp, 78, expressed concern for Rita Greyling, who is reportedly dating the former Paralympic athlete following his release on parole earlier this year.

"I don't understand how she doesn't see a red flag about him because he has not lost his temper problem," Mrs Steenkamp told The Sun.

The blonde 33-year-old is said to bear a resemblance to Reeva, who was killed by Pistorius in 2013.

"He's still a danger to women. Reeva only knew him for three months and she was dead and he's never confessed," Mrs Steenkamp warned.

Pistorius, 38, was imprisoned for nine years for shooting Reeva at his South African home in 2013.

The former Olympic and Paralympic sprint star claimed he mistook his girlfriend for a burglar when he fired bullets through his bathroom door.

He shot multiple "dum dum" bullets through the door, killing the model and trained lawyer instantly.

Initially convicted of culpable homicide, his charge was later upgraded to murder.

The Steenkamp family has maintained that Reeva was killed deliberately in a fit of rage after fleeing to the toilet in the early hours of Valentine's Day.

Pistorius was granted parole in January, while continuing to insist the killing was accidental.

Mrs Steenkamp revealed she had previously intervened to prevent Pistorius's release due to concerns over his anger management treatment in prison.

"He was supposed to be under anger management when he was in jail and at one stage I stopped him coming out because I was annoyed that he wasn't having treatment," she said.

Together with her husband Barry, she successfully convinced parole officials to block the killer's release on two occasions.

Mrs Steenkamp, who founded the Reeva Steenkamp Foundation Against The Abuse of Women and Children, added: "It's not painful for me that he's with this young woman - I'm just worried about her."

Pistorius now resides in a cottage on his millionaire uncle Arnold's fortified mansion in Pretoria, where he volunteers at a nearby Dutch Reform Church.

Sources close to the couple confirm Pistorius and Greyling, a family friend from Wakkerstroom in Mpumalanga, are in a romantic relationship.

"He is trying to rebuild his life in a low-key way and avoids bars and restaurants and the general public," a source close to Pistorius said.

His parole conditions until 2029 include regular checks from the Department of Corrections for alcohol and drugs.

He must inform local police before leaving the immediate area and is prohibited from owning firearms or contacting Reeva's mother or sister.
