Pistorius has always denied murder, insisting the death of his former girlfriend was a tragic accident.

But, after initially being convicted of manslaughter, his conviction was then upgraded to murder.

Pistorius has now spent over 3,000 days behind bars as a result of the tragic incident 11 years ago.

However, he was released on parole on Friday morning - with the Bladerunner star set to pursue a new career on the outside.

A report from The Sun says Pistorius is looking forward to eating his favourite food, lasagne, now his time in prison is over.

And he's also excited to rewatch two of his favourite films, Snatch and Full Metal Jacket.

Snatch was released in 2000 and stars the likes of Brad Pitt, Jason Statham, Stephen Graham and Vinnie Jones.

Full Metal Jacket came out in 1987, with Vincent D'Onofrio, Matthew Modine and R. Lee Ermey among those to feature in the picture.

Following his release, Pistorius is set to live at a fortified cottage with his uncle, Arnold.

Arnold, who has made millions from property and tourism, has reportedly hired armed guards with attack dogs.

He is concerned about threats to Pistorius' life, with the 37-year-old fearful of revenge attacks following the death of Reeva 11 years ago.

The late 29-year-old's father, Barry, died in September.

And a close friend has told the publication that there are people out there determined to hurt Pistorius.

"It’s common knowledge that Oscar was a target big-time for killing Reeva even before he went into prison, and those enemies have not gone away," they're quoted as saying.

“Reeva’s dad was in horse racing for over 60 years as a jockey and a trainer.

"Over that period you make a lot of friends, and not all of them in this tough game are nice people.

“Since Reeva was murdered, all Barry wanted was for Pistorius to admit it.

"Then he and his wife June could have had closure and come to terms with it. All he wanted was to hear the truth.

“But Oscar would not give him the truth while he was protected behind bars.

"But now that he is coming back out into the real world, he could be ‘persuaded’ to tell the truth.”

Bill Schroder, Pistorius’s former headmaster at Pretoria Boys High School, has claimed Pistorius fears for his safety.

He said: “He spoke about his fears about how he will be treated by the public when he is out, as he knows he has those who support him but he knows there are many others who don’t.

“He fears for his safety and being attacked if he just takes a walk down to the shops or a bar.

“Oscar worries about simple things like the reaction if he walks into a restaurant. Will he be ignored or acknowledged? Will he be abused or even attacked?

“He has been offered a safe place in Italy where he has some family but under the terms of his parole, he can’t leave the country.

“He’s lost a lot of weight as he cannot train any more but he has found religion and tries hard not to upset anybody.”
