"Disappointed not to get over the line, more points on the board, Glasgow [soon]," he wrote.
Watching the action unfold was Littler's 22-year-old girlfriend, Eloise Milburn.
Eloise stayed at home last week but joined her boyfriend for the trip to Germany, posting a selfie before the match kicked off.
And Eloise also took to Instagram to hail her other half, revealing she was 'proud' of the way he performed.
"Week 2 finalist in Berlin!" she wrote. "Bring in Glasgow next week. Proud as always."
Thursday night's action means Michael Smith remains top of the standings with seven points.
Both Littler and Van Gerwen have five each to their name as they continue their hunt for the trophy.
And Gerwyn Price has three points, with Rob Cross and Luke Humphries on two while Peter Wright and Nathan Aspinall are yet to get on the scoreboard.
Van Gerwen also spoke out after the match in Berlin.
And the Dutchman was full of praise for Littler, while also revealing he was extremely happy with his own performance.
"Games against Luke Littler are always good," he said.
"If you look at the averages and the way people played, I think it was a fantastic night for darts.
"I was really pleased with my own performance today as I was able to give it that final push. I played really well."
He added: "A lot of times I don't miss treble 20s either but it happens in darts.
"I'm playing really well and in the important moments I was able to keep the pressure on my opponents. I feel good but there is more to come.
