The Los Angeles Lakers selected Bronny James with the 55th overall pick in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft.

LeBron James is hopeful of playing alongside his son Bronny in a 'couple' of matches for the Los Angeles Lakers this season.

Bronny's NBA career has been mapped out for several years having impressed as a collegiate athlete.

LeBron made it clear that his biggest drive pushing him in the latter stages of his career was the prospect of one day playing in the same team as his son in the NBA.

The Lakers made that dream a realistic reality earlier this summer when they selected Bronny with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

The pair are set to become the first father-son duo to play together on an NBA team.

LeBron couldn't wipe the smile off his face earlier this week during the Lakers' media day as he was sat alongside his son in the same jersey.

“When it comes to him (Bronny), I’m just at a loss for words," he said.

"(I’m) just super proud of him to be able to get to this point.

“He’s a man, and he’s ready to go.”

There's an expectation around the league that Bronny will suit up for the Lakers early in the season to create history alongside his father.

LeBron is happy to wait for the chance to step onto the court with his son for the Lakers, but is hopeful of getting a handful of chances.

“If we get a couple of opportunities on the floor throughout the course of the season, obviously that’s going to be amazing,” LeBron added.

“It will be awesome. We’ll wait for that moment when it happens, and then go from there.”

Bronny is projected to spend the majority of his rookie season with the Lakers' G League side South Bay.

The 19-year-old insists he's more than ready to put in the work with South Bay to work his way up to the Lakers' roster.

“I know that I’m not going to be thrown into the rotation immediately," he said.

"So, I’ve accepted that role and I’m coming in and getting better every day and learning from the vets and people that are going to be receiving heavy minutes.

"I have no problem sitting back and learning these first couple years and then building up from there."
