Racing fans quickly took to social media to express their distress over Broadway Boy's fall.

"Sat breaking my heart over that fall from Broadway Boy," one emotional viewer posted on X, formerly Twitter.

Another added: "How can people watch and enjoy horse racing, that fall from 'Broadway Boy' was actually sickening."

A third viewer shared their concern, posting: "That has made me feel sick to the stomach after seeing Broadway Boy going down like that poor horse."

And a fourth said: "If Broadway Boy survives that he should be retired to a green field & never be made to run again. Horrific fall. I expect the worst but am praying for the best."

The incident clearly left many spectators deeply troubled by what they had witnessed.

Mullins was elated after his victory, saying: "I'm too out of breath to say anything. It is incredible.

"I got too good a start and had to take him back all the way but he jumped fantastic. It a dream from when I was a kid."

Owner Stuart Andrew was equally thrilled: "I can't tell you. Different class.

"Everybody had written the horse off, he'd drifted into the betting. He's a class horse and has the heart of a lion."
