Rivals Gerwyn Price and Gary Anderson could meet at the World Darts Championships this winter in a potential repeat of their spicy clash in the 2021 final.

Gerwyn Price smiled as he looked forward to a potential grudge match with Gary Anderson at the World Darts Championship for the first time since they met in the final nearly three years ago.

The pair have clashed throughout their time on the professional tour with Anderson unimpressed by Price's antics at the oche.

The 2018 Masters saw Anderson get riled up by Price before they came to blows at the Grand Slam of Darts final later that year.

The heated contest saw Anderson grow irate with his opponent for his excessive cheering.

The 52-year-old even shoved Price at one point after the 'Iceman' roared in his face after nailing a crucial double.

Price held his nerve to win the contest and repeated the feat in 2021 when the pair met for the first time at Alexandra Palace.

There's a chance their rivalry could be renewed this year with both players being drawn into the same section at the 2024 World Darts Championships.

And Price is hopeful facing his old foe could be a good omen for his title hopes.

"I think I've only ever played Gary once at the Worlds and everyone knows what happened there [laughs] - I lift the trophy," he told Online Darts.

"If I meet Gary, hopefully I can turn the tables on him.

"What happened in the Grand Slam, he played fantastic and I played really well as well, just missed a couple of opportunities.

"But yeah if I can turn the tables if we meet in the fourth round then hopefully I can go on and lift the trophy if I come through that one."

Price has become somewhat of a pantomime villain at the World Darts Championship in recent years.

The infamous match against Anderson in 2018 is when the boos against him all started as darts fans picked their side.

The chorus of boos got too much for Price at last year's World Championship as he decided to wear ear muffs to drown out the noise.

The decision backfired as he suffered a shock quarter-final defeat to Gabriel Clemens.

But the boos had clearly gotten to the Welshman as he threatened to boycott the World Darts Championship after his exit.

He said at the time: “Not sure I will ever play in this event again. So frustrating, you play all year round preparing for this one tournament.
