Bill Belichick is reportedly one of the leading candidates for the vacant Atlanta Falcons job.

New England Patriots legend Bill Belichick may not be too keen on a job with the Atlanta Falcons due to a previous rift with the team's CEO, according to reports.

Belichick is looking for his next job in the NFL after his illustrious reign in charge of the Patriots came to an end.

A host of teams have reported an interest with Belichick, but the Falcons have emerged as the frontrunners.

He's reportedly the only person to interview twice with the Falcons with his second meeting taking place on Friday last week.

But Atlanta are said to have made no final decisions on who their next coach would be with several more candidates being interviewed.

Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson was the 13th person to interview for the vacant head coach role with the Falcons on Sunday night.

Belichick is still seen as the favourite given his reputation, however Sports Illustrated claim the 71-year-old may not be completely enamoured by the job in Atlanta.

The report points out an ongoing rift that Belichick has had with Falcons CEO Rich McKay dating back years.

McKay took on his new role with the Falcons a year ago having previously chaired the NFL’s competition committee.

It's suggested that Belichick wouldn't be 'comfortable with any sort of arrangement where he’s reporting to McKay'.

Belichick was used to being in full control of personnel at the Patriots, although he stated before his departure that he was open to the idea of relinquishing that power if it was best for the team.

The Falcons aren't the only team looking for a new head coach in the offseason and Hall of Famer Howie Long has named the Washington Commanders as a potential landing spot for Belichick.
