Further scans showed the cancer had originated in his prostate and had already spread to his bones.

In October 2024, the 49-year-old Scotsman bravely went public with his diagnosis, revealing doctors had given him an estimated two to four years to live.

In an interview conducted in 2017, the same year his daughter Chloe was born, Hoy shared the key lesson he intends to impart to his children.

"The biggest thing I've learnt and will be passing on to my children will be: do what you're passionate about and you enjoy, don't use that as a cop out but as long as you give it your best you will enjoy it and get the most out of life," he said. "That's what I've done."

Despite his terminal diagnosis, Hoy has remained firmly in the public eye, using his platform to encourage men across the country to check whether they are at risk of prostate cancer.
