The Paraguayan recently announced she'd be retiring at the age of 20

Olympics swimmer Luana Alonso has been banned from staying at the Olympic Village after being accused of creating an 'inappropriate environment'.

The Paraguayan recently finished bottom of the women's 100m butterfly heat, where she finished five seconds behind Helena Rosendahl Bach.

Alonso has since said she would be retiring from swimming, having become a popular figure online.

Athletes, even once eliminated, are usually able to stay at the Olympic Village in Paris.

But she now won't be able to, with a statement released confirming she's been banned from staying at the village due to her creating an 'inappropriate atmosphere'.

A statement from Larissa Schaerer, the head of the COP mission, read: "Her presence is creating an inappropriate atmosphere within Team Paraguay.

"We thank her for proceeding as instructed, as it was of her own free will that she did not spend the night in the Athletes' Village."

Alonso is yet to respond to the allegations.

News of the 20-year-old's ban comes shortly after the swimmer had said she would be retiring from the sport.

Writing on Instagram, to her 491,000 followers, she wrote: “It's official now!

"I'm retiring from swimming, thank you all so much for the support!

"Sorry Paraguay, I only have to thank you!”

Explaining her decision further, she said: "I am very emotional because it was my last race. I am retiring from swimming.

“I have been swimming for so long, 18 years, and I have so many feelings.

“Unfortunately, I made the decision to stop and I am happy that my last race will be at the Olympic Games.”

Alonso, who previously competed at the Tokyo Olympics, said she'd made her decision 'a long time ago'.
