The Team GB star was unable to add to his medal haul out in Paris on Sunday

Jack Carlin has revealed he's 'alright' but feels he 'mucked it up a little bit' after his cycling crash at the Paris Olympics on Sunday.

The 27-year-old had gone into the men's keirin final hoping to add to the two medals he'd claimed earlier in the games in France.

On Sunday, Carlin made a late burst for bronze but ended up crashing to the deck after a collision between Japan's Shinji Nakano and Malaysia's Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom, with that crash taking place just in front of him.

Carlin's skin suit was ripped and medics rushed to treat the stricken Team GB star.

He declined an offer of a neck brace and walked gingerly away from the veldrome with a look of disappointment etched over his face.

And Carlin has now opened up on the crash, with the 27-year-old saying he 'mucked it up' as his pursuit of a third medal of the Olympics ended in failure.

"I’m alright. I’m just a bit sore, but that is part and parcel of racing," he said.

"I mucked it up a little bit, I was on the backfoot and then two riders collided in front of me and your day is done after that. It is what it is.

"I’ve done well, I was hoping for more today.

"This is the one I felt really confident [about] and I was doing really well.

"I just got it wrong and I paid the consequence for that."

While Carlin's day ended in disaster, Team GB won another bronze in the cycling courtesy of Emma Finucane.

The 21-year-old has become the first British woman since Mary Rand back in 1964 to secure a hat-trick of podium finishes at a single Olympics.

And Finucane was emotional after claiming her third medal, with the Team GB star thanking fans, family members and friends for their support.

"Honestly, it feels amazing. I know I had the expectations coming into the Olympics but a gold and two bronze is more than I could have expected," she told the BBC.

"It's been such a rollercoaster this week, my friends and my family experience the lows, the crying, the happy tears and I can't thank everyone enough who has helped me get to this place.

"That bronze medal, I literally gave it everything I could.

"To celebrate with my family who have been here all week, the support I've had back home, the National Lottery, I wouldn't be here without them.

"I wouldn't be here without British Cycling, Team GB, my friends, everyone that loves me.

"I am just really proud to deliver it on the final day and to just come home with another bronze medal is incredible. I can't believe it."
