Mason Greenwood was scared in England prior to leaving Manchester United for Getafe, according to reports.
The England international is resuming his career in Spain after charges of attempted rape and assault were dropped in February.
United had originally intended to bring Greenwood back into the fold, informing staff of their decision in August.
They then performed a U-turn following a big backlash online, however, with the striker agreeing it was for the best that he went elsewhere.

On transfer deadline day, United agreed a deal with Getafe for Greenwood.
The youngster will spend the current campaign on loan with the La Liga side and has been filmed training with his new team-mates.
Now, a source has told The Sun that Greenwood was 'scared' in England because of the abuse he'd potentially receive.
And he now feels his life 'has changed' for the better in the wake of his departure from Old Trafford.
"Mason was very nervous about how he would be received by his new team-mates and his coaches but they have been very welcoming to him," an insider is quoted as saying.
"He feels relaxed in their company and a couple of the Spanish lads have taken him under their wing.
"He has been very very low at times while he was suspended by United and within the space of a few days he has fans chanting his name again.
"He was scared to walk down the street in England because he was worried he would be attacked or abused.
"In Spain, he’s able to wander around freely. He’s been able to concentrate 100 per cent on his football and want to get back to playing as soon as possible."
"The coaching staff have been impressed with his sharpness and plan to throw him in as soon as they can."
Greenwood is expected to make his debut for Getafe against Osasuna on September 17.
The report says his girlfriend has been welcomed by the wives and partners of Getafe players, too.
Greenwood's last appearance in a professional football match came all the way back in January 2022.
That was in a match United won, with the Red Devils securing a 1-0 victory against West Ham following a dramatic late goal from Marcus Rashford.
Greenwood has left United after scoring 35 goals from 129 appearances for the club.
Some have criticised Getafe for their decision to land the England striker, despite Greenwood insisting he was innocent.
Yet sporting director Ruben Reyes last week defended the decision, saying: "We did what we do - sign players that are available to sign.
"There is no need for us to handle anything [off the pitch].
"We have signed a footballer who is just the same as (fellow signings) Diego Rico and Oscar Rodriguez, and that's it. We have to do our job, and that's what we focus on."
He added: "It is a year's loan.

"It's very difficult to get an option to buy on a player (like him).
"He will be here all season. There are internal discussions, but those are small details that we try not to share.
"They [United and Greenwood] appreciated the effort, how convinced we were. We're very excited with him. He was a player that we knew was out there.
"We worked on it, gathered information and bit by bit we saw that there could be a possibility. We spoke to his family, to his dad, to his people for a long time.
"We were able to convince him to come here, to trust in us. We're satisfied."
