The British billionaire is primed to purchase a 25 per cent stake in the club after fending off competition from Sheikh Jassim

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sir Dave Brailsford are keen to bring Crystal Palace sporting director Dougie Freedman to Manchester United, according to reports.

The INEOS chief is on the verge of purchasing a 25 per cent stake in the Red Devils.

The Glazers confirmed last winter they were open to selling United but no interested party came near to their massive £6billion asking price.

That's opened the door to Ratcliffe, who will now invest in the club having fended off competition from Qatari rival Sheikh Jassim.

Ratcliffe knows United need to make shrewd appointments if they're to end a decade of disaster at Old Trafford.

The club have toiled ever since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement all the way back in 2013.

And the Daily Star say both Ratcliffe and Brailsford are keen to poach Palace sporting director Freedman.

Freedman has been in charge of the Eagles' recruitment ever since 2017.

He has helped Palace consolidate their place in the Premier League, despite often working on a tight budget.

Ratcliffe's deal to buy United is set to go through during the upcoming international break.

And Freedman's potential appointment will raise questions over the future of United's football director John Murtough at Old Trafford.

Murtough has been working in that role for the past two years.

He has brokered big deals for the likes of Jadon Sancho, Antony and Cristiano Ronaldo during that time.

But United have still overpaid and they're no closer to winning the Premier League title as a result.

Three players could be offloaded in January once Ratcliffe secures power.

Sancho is expected to be cut loose, with the forward banished from the first team since publicly criticising Erik ten Hag in September.

The England international hit out at his manager after being accused of performing poorly in training.

And though he's since deleted his criticism, he's refused to apologise and faces being sold as a consequence of his actions.]

Reports say United will try and get rid of Antony, too.

The club invested a massive £86million in the Brazil international back in the summer transfer window of 2022.

But Antony has never been consistent and, with no goals or assists this season, faces being cut loose.

United are also said to be prepared to listen to offers for Anthony Martial as well.

The France international has blown hot and cold since touching down from Monaco in the summer transfer window of 2015.

And with Martial now below Rasmus Hojlund in the pecking order, a parting of ways is on the cards.
