Donny van de Beek scored the only goal of the game as Manchester United battled their way to a narrow 1-0 win over Lyon at Murrayfield.
The Red Devils had gone into the game hoping for a second successive pre-season win having beaten Leeds last time out.
United opted to field two different sides in either half, barring goalkeeper Matej Kovar.
Kovar is currently filling in at a time when the Red Devils are on the verge of signing Andre Onana, who has already confirmed he expects to be playing at Old Trafford next season.

And it was Van de Beek who was United's unlikely matchwinner in Scotland.
The Netherlands international has often struggled ever since his move from Ajax three years ago, having previously flourished during his time in Amsterdam.
Van de Beek also suffered last season, picking up an injury in January that sidelined him until the end of the campaign.
However, the 26-year-old took his goal well to give United victory.
Youngster Dan Gore, who was introduced at the interval, produced a driven pass that went straight to his team-mate.
Van de Beek then did the rest, volleying home expertly and celebrating with a huge roar.
Another player who came on during the showdown was Jonny Evans, with the defender signing a short-term deal with the club on Tuesday.
The Northern Ireland international was once viewed as a United legend in the making by the iconic Sir Alex Ferguson.
Evans won three Premier League titles during his spell at Old Trafford while playing under Ferguson.
And he's now back at United to train while he looks for a new club, having recently left Leicester.
Evans didn't put a foot wrong either and it'll be fascinating to see what happens with the 35-year-old.
United aren't ruling out a one-year contract for the player, who was sold by Louis van Gaal back in the summer transfer window of 2016.
Some supporters of the club have criticised the decision.
But Ten Hag, speaking before the showdown, shed light on his decision to bring Evans into his squad.
"I know him for a long time, so I know his place was here, in Manchester," stated the Dutchman.

“He came to train with us, to work on his fitness, and when I said: yeah, not all the players are in - internationals are out, still having their break, so I thought it was a good idea to help each other out," he said.
"Jonny can work on his fitness and he can help us out.
“The level, we know he is a really experienced player but also a very good person, a big personality, and I think he has big authority as well.
"He will help the young players especially. It is a benefit for both sides."
United are next in action against Premier League rivals Arsenal on Saturday (10pm). They beat the Gunners 3-1 at Old Trafford last season before slumping to a 3-2 defeat in the reverse fixture at the Emirates back in January.
