The Reds were unable to leave the Amex Stadium with all three points

Mohamed Salah's double wasn't enough as Liverpool dropped points against Brighton in Sunday's Premier League clash.

The Reds went into the game looking for a return to winning ways in the top flight after a 2-1 defeat to Tottenham last time out.

However, while Liverpool came from behind, they were unable to leave the south coast with all three points to their name.

And four players can be blamed in the wake of yet another disappointing result.

Brighton took the lead through Simon Adingra in the 20th minute, with the 21-year-old finishing expertly to get the home crowd on their feet.

Yet three Liverpool players should have done better in the build-up to the goal.

Alexis Mac Allister, making his first return to Brighton since leaving the club back in the summer, was robbed of possession near his own goal.

Virgil van Dijk had put the Argentina international in a tight spot in the first place after a tame pass out from the back.

And Alisson Becker's position should have been better for Adingra's strike, with the Brighton star spotting a gap in order to slot home.

Fortunately for the trio, however, Mohamed Salah was able to come to their rescue.

Some feel Liverpool should have taken the money from Saudi Arabia at the end of August, with Al Ittihad eager to snap him up at the time.

But this is why the Merseyside giants kept Salah because, simply put, they know they're better with the winger than without.

Salah drew Liverpool level in the 40th minute, coolly slotting home after a dummy from Harvey Elliot.

Then, minutes later, he was on target again.

Liverpool were awarded a penalty after Pascal Gross fouled Dominik Szoboszlai inside the box.

And Salah made no mistake from 12 yards, powering his effort into the bottom corner.

Brighton rallied in the second half as they pursued an equaliser, with Alisson called into action.

And they eventually got it following yet another mistake from a Liverpool player.

This time it was the experienced Andy Robertson who didn't do enough to prevent the goal from going in.

Solly March delivered a superb free kick into the box.

And Lewis Dunk was on hand to expertly volley home and spark wild celebrations inside the ground.

Robertson anticipated the ball coming in.

However, with the Scotland international fearing the possibility of giving away an own goal, he opted against trying to clear it.

That allowed Dunk to creep in unopposed and the veteran took his goal superbly.

Things could have got even worse for Liverpool in the closing stages.

Brighton star Joao Pedro received the ball inside the box with the goal gaping.

But he rifled his effort high over the bar, with manager Roberto De Zerbi devastated in the immediate aftermath.

Liverpool are next in action against Everton in the Merseyside Derby on October 21 (12.30pm).

Brighton will do battle with Manchester City later that day (3pm).
