The German was happy with the result at the Etihad Stadium

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has spoken out after his side's 1-1 Premier League draw with Manchester City on Saturday.

Erling Haaland put the hosts ahead in the 27th minute, with the Norway international bagging his 50th Premier League goal in the process.

Yet Liverpool were able to earn a draw late on when Trent Alexander-Arnold's low drive sailed into the bottom corner.

The result keeps City at the top of the table, though Liverpool remain hot on their heels after failing to succumb to defeat.

And Klopp now provided his assessment of the match to Sky Sports, revealing the half-time message he delivered to his players in the process.

"It’s a really good moment," he said.

"It’s a tough place to come – it’s no coincidence that they win that many home games.

"You’d need more time to prepare for the game properly, especially in these kind of circumstances.

"We’re still in a process. If we’d played really well today, we could have won – we didn’t. We played OK.

"We caused them problems as well, but our good moments didn’t feel that good to us [in the first half].

"We had to stretch ourselves again [in the second half]. We adapted our positioning slightly.

"Unfortunately we lost Diogo [Jota], with Ali we’ll have to see.

"I told the boys at half-time, imagine what it would be like if we were playing well.

"We had to settle a little bit. Putting Trent in a different position defensively, plus Dom [Szoboszlai] and Mo [Salah] closing that gap in the second half gave us much more stability. From there we could play football ourselves.

"We had good moments. I wish we could have had more.

"For the moment we’re in, we should take the point as a success. I have nothing to complain about there.

"Trent made a difference today. Before we start talking about positioning, I think it helps us having him on the right wing from time to time."

While speaking to the BBC, he added: "If we had played really well, we could have won.

"This is a really tough place to come and it is a not a coincidence they have won I don't know how many in a row at home. They are a super team.

"When we had our football moments, we immediately created [chances]. Did we do that often enough? No.

"Can we play better? Definitely. And we will. But for today, this was a super important experience for the group.

"It has been a tough week for the boys and then coming here to play a game against a team that really makes you suffer is not cool.

"It is difficult to stay in the game, but we had our moments and I like that a lot.

"It is a good point and I am absolutely fine with it."

Alexander-Arnold also spoke out after earning a point for Liverpool at the home of their fierce rivals.

And the England international was adamant Liverpool didn't play well enough, saying: "It’s definitely better than last year. We haven’t had too many good results here in general.

"It’s a point gained. It wasn’t an amazing performance from us at all, but we take the point. There were positives – we had chances to win the game.

"I don’t think we played particularly well. Their formation and the way they set up really challenged us.

"We regrouped at half-time and came out with a bit more of a game plan to press them.

"It’s difficult subconsciously when you play against Man City – you can’t really get tight to them or stand off them.

"There was potentially a game plan to stop me from getting the ball in midfield. I think Bernardo [Silva] was very close to me when I was pulling inside.

"It was about getting on the ball in different ways and getting us up the pitch. We did that especially well in the second half."
