England won 2-1 against Slovakia last night in a tense Euros game

England footballer Jude Bellingham has been praised for his "brilliant goal" in the England game last night after he scored in the final minutes against Slovakia.

Jude Bellingham’s overhead kick in injury time spared the Three Lions from losing the game. It was the first shot on target in the game for Gareth Southgate’s men and Harry Kane then scored the winning goal in the first minute of extra time.

England will face Switzerland in the quarter-finals after they knocked out defending champions Italy with a 2-0 win on Saturday.

Speaking about the close match on GB News, Sports correspondent Paul Coyte said that even though Bellingham saved the team, it is just "paper over the cracks."

He said: "It was not good. This is the thing it is just paper over the cracks.

"Everybody's going to be saying it was amazing, what a great result. Well, it was a great goal by Bellingham. It was a fantastic goal. It was just one of the great goals.

He later added: "And our friend Harry Kane goes up and scores. I mean, let's face it, it wasn't over then because even then Slovakia had some challenges, but on the whole it was not a great performance by England.

"There's nothing like a late goal. We are going to have to go through all of this again on Saturday.

GB News host Isabel Webster said: "I don't think I can bear it because I don't think England are going to change anything.

"I think there may be a few tweaks with Gareth Southgate, everybody is screaming people that know football, people that have no idea about football, just screaming at the TV, make some changes, make some changes and he doesn't."

England’s win means they will now play Switzerland in the Euro 2024 quarter-final at 5pm on Saturday, July 6.

Switzerland, who finished second in Group A behind Germany, reached the last eight of the competition on Saturday with an impressive 2-0 victory over the reigning European champions Italy.

If Gareth Southgate's side can win the fixture they will be just one win from reaching the final in Berlin.

England are in a seemingly good position on the supposedly "easier" side of the knockout draw, as they will avoid France, Portugal, Spain and Germany on their way to the final.

Assuming England win their quarter-final against Switzerland, they will face either Romania, the Netherlands, Austria or Turkey on Wednesday, July 10 at 8pm.

At the beginning of the tournament England were the favourites to win. Though they remain in with a chance of glory, significant improvement is required.
