Rory McIlroy recently tipped Donald Trump to help bring an end to the current division in professional golf.

Tiger Woods has expressed confidence that the rift in men's professional golf will "heal quickly" following former President Donald Trump's involvement in ongoing talks.

The golf legend's optimistic comments came during the Genesis Invitational broadcast, as efforts continue to broker a deal between the PGA Tour, DP World Tour and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, which finances LIV Golf.

The remarks follow a recent meeting between PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan and player director Adam Scott with Trump, as negotiations progress beyond the framework agreement signed in June 2023.

Woods revealed he was unable to attend the meeting with Trump due to "other circumstances."

However, he praised the efforts of Monahan and Scott during their discussions with the former president.

"We had a meeting with the President. Unfortunately, I had some other circumstances that came up, but Jay and Adam, they did great during the meeting," Woods said.

The 15-time major champion also confirmed that another meeting is scheduled to take place.

Woods emphasised his positive outlook for the sport's future during the broadcast.

"I think that things are going to heal quickly. We're going to get this game going in the right direction. It's been heading in the wrong direction for a number of years," he said.

The former world No 1 stressed the importance of meeting fans' expectations.

"The fans want all the top players playing together and we're going to make that happen," Woods stated.

When asked by Jim Nantz if reunification could happen "very soon this year," Woods responded affirmatively with "Yes and yes."

Rory McIlroy had previously suggested that Trump's potential return to the presidency could aid in resolving golf's divisions.

The four-time major winner identified two main obstacles to a deal: a 50-50 split between players from both sides and the US Department of Justice.

The DOJ has already influenced negotiations by forcing the removal of a non-solicitation clause from the framework agreement.

Trump's close relationship with Saudi Arabia and LIV Golf could prove significant, with several LIV Golf events being hosted at Trump-owned courses.

His position could also impact DOJ priorities, potentially easing the path to reunification.
