The Masters week has got off to a dreary start but there is sunshine on the way

Masters patrons were allowed onto the Augusta National Golf Club grounds Monday morning for the first practice round, despite earlier concerns about severe weather.

The club opened its gates at 8 a.m. ET, following a 30-minute delay caused by overnight storms.

This comes after tournament officials had initially announced Sunday evening that patron gates would not open as scheduled due to incoming weather.

Augusta National is now monitoring approaching weather conditions as players begin their preparation for the year's first major championship.

A band of thunderstorms is forecasted to develop around noon Monday at Augusta National, persisting through the afternoon.

The storms are expected to transition to showers in the evening, according to the latest weather reports.

The overnight storms that hit the Augusta area Sunday caused the initial 30-minute delay to Monday's scheduled opening.

Weather conditions remain a significant concern for players hoping to get valuable practice time on the course before Thursday's first round begins.

Forecasters predict a 99 percent chance of precipitation on Monday with "periods of heavy rain and a thunderstorm" expected throughout the day.

The inclement weather could significantly impact players' preparation for the tournament, which officially begins Thursday.

There appears to be little chance of a break in the weather on Monday, potentially limiting practice opportunities.

Fans hoping to watch their favourite golfers during Monday's practice round may be disappointed if conditions deteriorate further.

Augusta National Golf Club issued a statement Monday morning confirming the grounds would remain open.

"We will continue to monitor the approaching weather. The grounds will remain open this morning as the weather permits," the club said.

The Masters shared this update via their official Twitter account at 8 a.m. when gates opened.

Tournament officials are clearly taking a cautious approach, allowing patrons on the course while conditions permit but prepared to adjust plans if storms intensify.

The forecast for the remainder of Masters week looks more promising for both players and patrons.

Clear conditions are expected through Thursday's first round, with the next chance of rain not forecasted until Friday.

While Monday's practice rounds face significant disruption, the weather outlook improves significantly for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Temperatures may not reach the warmth typically associated with Augusta this time of year, but the absence of rain will be welcomed by all involved in the tournament.
