The 67-year-old's post included an image showing a youthful Faldo alongside a baby-faced McIlroy wearing an oversized jacket.
The personal nature of Faldo's celebration has drawn some criticism from a small number of fans, however.
Bookmaker Paddy Power was quick to criticise Faldo's post, writing: "If one thing's for certain, Nick Faldo will always find a way to make it about himself..."
Social media users echoed this sentiment with numerous critical replies.

The controversy surrounding Faldo extended beyond his social media activity.
Fans also criticised his commentary during the final day at Augusta.
Some X users accused the former champion of showing bias against American golfer Bryson DeChambeau.
The criticism was particularly pointed, with viewers suggesting Faldo's commentary on the two-time US Open champion displayed "disrespect" and even "hatred".
