ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington was close by as a police officer 'attempted to attach himself to Scheffler's car'.
The 27-year-old then stopped his car before he was 'screamed at' and 'shoved' against his car by an officer.
The chaotic scenes saw Scheffler placed in handcuffs and taken to jail where he was booked by police.
He was charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, criminal mischief in the third degree, reckless driving and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic.
Scheffler was soon released with time running against him to get to Valhalla in time for his scheduled tee time on Friday.
The American golf star was pictured arriving at the course one hour before his scheduled tee time and was seen smiling as he exited the car into the clubhouse.
Golf reporter Kira K. Dixon saw Scheffler walking into the clubhouse where he gave an indication of his plans to play.
"Scheffler walked straight into the clubhouse," she said on Sky Sports.
