The campaign involving Dylan Mulvaney sparked controversy

Former Bud Light executive Alissa Heinerscheid has joined Saudi-backed LIV Golf in a surprising career move following her departure from Anheuser-Busch.

Heinerscheid left the beer giant in the aftermath of the controversial Dylan Mulvaney promotion that sparked widespread boycotts of the brand.


She has now started working at LIV Golf, where she has been working since September according to her LinkedIn profile.

Heinerscheid's LinkedIn profile describes her role as working in "Team Business Operations" for the breakaway golf league.

LIV Golf has hosted several events at President Donald Trump's golf clubs.

The Saudi-backed league boasts several high-profile golfers such as Bryson DeChambeau and Dustin Johnson, who have publicly supported the former US president.

The Bud Light controversy reportedly cost Anheuser-Busch £1.4 billion in sales.

The backlash was severe enough that Bud Light lost its position as the highest-selling beer in the United States.

Heinerscheid was initially placed on leave by Anheuser-Busch in April 2023 following the public outcry.

She ultimately left the company in November 2023.

Prior to the controversy, Heinerscheid had spoken about her vision for the brand in a March 2023 podcast interview.

She discussed her mandate to "evolve and elevate this incredibly iconic brand" and create a campaign that was "truly inclusive" and felt "lighter and brighter."

Heinerscheid also remarked that Bud Light had "a brand of fratty, kind of out-of-touch humour."

The controversy involving Mulvaney began in April 2023 when the transgender influencer posted on Instagram a photo of a custom Bud Light can sent to her by the company.

The personalised can was meant to celebrate "365 Days of Girlhood" after transitioning.

Mulvaney also shared photos of herself opening a Bud Light during March Madness.

During a SXSW panel last year, Mulvaney criticised the brand's response to the backlash.

She said the company needed to stand up to "bullying" following the controversy over her promotion, having experienced a huge backlash from critics online.

“For a company to hire a trans person and then to not publicly stand by them is worse, in my opinion, than not hiring a trans personal at all because it gives customers permission to be as transphobic and hateful as they want,” said Mulvaney.

A few months later, the internet personality added: “I’m bringing it up because what transpired from that video was more bullying and transphobia than I could have ever imagined.”
