Team World, captained by Sergio Garcia, faced an uphill battle heading into the final session of the two-day tournament.

They trailed 44-22 before the final round of matches began.

The deficit proved too difficult to overcome as Westwood's men won eight of the 12 matches to seal victory.

The Ryder Cup-style format showcased the competitive spirit of former professional footballers who have successfully transferred their sporting prowess to the golf course.

England's dominance was evident throughout as they maintained their advantage to claim the prestigious title.

Former World No.1 Westwood praised his team's performance, saying: "I think a coach or a captain is only as good as the talent he's got to work with, and this is a talented bunch."

"We tried to make it close today, but they were just a little bit too good."
