Supporters taunted the Blues boss as they slumped to defeat at the King Power Stadium

Wayne Rooney has responded after being mocked by Leicester fans on Tuesday night as Birmingham lost 3-2 at St Andrew's.

The Foxes won courtesy of a brace from Stephy Mavididi, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall also on target.

Though Jordan James scored twice for Birmingham, it wasn't enough for the home side to get anything from the match.

During the contest, Rooney was mocked by travelling fans.

Supporters inside the ground wore Jamie Vardy masks to taunt the Birmingham boss.

The match has even been dubbed the 'Wagatha Christie derby' in reference to the public fall-out between Rebekah Vardy and Coleen Rooney.

Coleen previously accused Rebekah of leaking stories to the media and the pair ended up going to court.

The judge ruled in favour of Coleen, with Rebekah then forced to pay 90 per cent of her rival's court costs.

And Rooney has now spoken out after losing the match, admitting he was 'very disappointed' to leave the contest with nothing.

“I’m very disappointed to lose the game,” said Rooney.

“I thought for 30 minutes we were really good and had good control of the game.

"We pressed really well and created chances, then something we spoke about (happened).

“Leicester are very good on transition. Maybe we were a little bit naive on the two goals they scored.

"Then for the last 10 minutes of the first half, for some reason we didn’t sit back but we stopped getting pressure on the ball and allowed them to have control.

“That carried on into the second half and we were a little bit sloppy.

"I said to the lads at half-time, ‘If we don’t secure the ball in the middle of the pitch, they will punish us.’ And that’s exactly what happened for the third goal.

“We kept pushing. I brought attacking lads on with energy.

"Ultimately, it ended up with every attacking player I’ve got on the pitch, but we fell a bit short.

"The character of the players was really good.

“Let’s not forget, there’s a reason Leicester are top of the league. We competed and at times showed real quality as well.”

He added: “When we get the details right we look like a really good team.

"When we don’t we get punished. Against a team like Leicester you can’t not get them right.”

Vardy ended up missing the fixture in the Midlands through injury.

And Rooney had said before the match that the pair have no relationship with each other.

“I played with him for England, the same as I played with many players for England," he said.

"He is not someone who I have ever had a relationship with, outside of being away on a training camp or being in games with him.

"I respect Jamie Vardy a lot, I think he is a fantastic player – he still has a lot to offer Leicester.

"But I think what is important is we don’t get dragged into a sideshow about everything that has happened in the past, which everyone is aware has been dealt with from a legal point of view.

"My job is to focus on Birmingham trying to win the game.”
