Liverpool won the Premier League on Sunday after thrashing Tottenham 5-1 at Anfield

Liverpool secured their 20th top-flight title on Sunday with a commanding 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.

The win gave Arne Slot's side an unassailable 15-point lead over second-placed Arsenal with four games remaining in the season.

The Merseysiders clinched the Premier League crown for only the second time in the competition's era.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk was emotional after the match, telling Sky Sports: "It's special and it's something that we don't take for granted. It's amazing, what today was.

"A lot of emotions before the game, during the whole week. We got the job done and we truly deserve to be champions of England."

Liverpool had to overcome an early setback when Dominic Solanke gave Tottenham the lead.

Luis Diaz quickly equalised before Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah and an own goal from Destiny Udogie completed the rout.

The victory mirrored their dominance over Spurs this season, having also thrashed them 6-3 in the reverse fixture back in December.

The title triumph marks an extraordinary debut season for Arne Slot, who succeeded Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager last summer.

Slot has seamlessly built upon the foundations laid by his predecessor, maintaining the club's winning culture.

"It wasn't ideal but it didn't take me a long time to trust these players, they always come back, they always find a way to win," Slot told Sky Sports after the match.

The significance of this title victory was heightened by the presence of supporters at Anfield, unlike five years ago when Liverpool lifted the Premier League trophy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I was desperate for them to be here of course, for all the fans around the world, for the fans here, but for us as well," Van Dijk admitted.

A packed Anfield serenaded the players with the club's anthem 'You'll Never Walk Alone' as they celebrated.

Van Dijk's pride in Liverpool was evident as he declared: "This is the most beautiful club in the world. I think we deserve all of this."

The defender reflected on the achievement of winning two Premier League titles in five years, calling it "a really good achievement."

He urged everyone to "enjoy the next couple of weeks and let it sink in."

Slot couldn't hide his pride in the collective effort that delivered Liverpool's title triumph.

"It was clear we couldn't lose this game. Everyone on the bus said, 'There's no way we're going to lose this game'," the manager revealed.

"Incredibly proud, not only of the players but the people standing here - sport directors, my staff members, we should give them a big round of applause."
