The Australian's side were beaten 2-1 at St James' Park on Sunday

Tottenham fans have vented their fury after their 2-1 defeat to Newcastle on Sunday, with some calling on the north London giants to sack Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs went into the clash hoping to build on last weekend's emphatic victory over Everton.

But Tottenham lacked a cutting edge against Newcastle, who picked up all three points courtesy of goals from Harvey Barnes and Alexander Isak.

The result means Spurs have picked up just four points from a possible nine.

Having fallen apart last season, some Tottenham fans have now demanded Postecoglou be relieved of his duties.

"That's what Ange ball gives you it's a poor system with no defensive shape at all sack him now and bring in a manager who is more than a one trick pony," fumed a second.

"Dr Tottenham strikes again. Ange is certainly going to win something this season ... probably the sack race," said a fifth.

And a sixth user simply said: "Sack the idiot."

Tottenham are invested in Postecoglou, which means he's unlikely to lose his job ahy time soon.

But there are question marks over the north London giants and whether they're good enough to qualify for the Champions League.

Tottenham came close to securing a spot in Europe's top-tier club competition last season.

However, they crumbled after a bright start to the season - with Aston Villa going on to clinch fourth instead.

Tottenham spent big this summer on the likes of Archie Gray and Dominic Solanke.

But they remain inconsistent and Postecoglou will need to start picking up more points to ensure his side compete with the best.

As for Newcastle, the victory will be a big boost to manager Eddie Howe.

Howe has hinted at his frustrations with the club's board, having found his transfer activity limited this summer.

And Jamie Carragher, speaking before the clash, urged Newcastle to do everything in their power to keep hold of the former Bournemouth boss.

He told Sky Sports: "I think the bigger for them right now is that if they got beat today (against Tottenham) and they go into the international break there will be a lot of negativity.

"There's a lot of pressure from the supporters on Darren Eales the CEO, on Paul Mitchell the sporting director as well.

"They've got to be very careful that they don't lose Eddie Howe because Howe is the number one person in most people's eyes for the England job and if that carries on the way it's going, if he's not happy, he's going to go to the England job."
