Ange Postecoglou is on the brink of the sack and Tottenham have decided on a replacement

Tottenham have decided their top target to replace Ange Postecoglou with the Spurs coach facing mounting pressure by the week.

Postecoglou is the firm favourite to lose his job next in the Premier League with the club 14th in the table.

It has been a disaster of a season under the Australian coach, who only arrived in the summer after 2023 following the dismissals of Antonio Conte and Cristian Stellini.

And while Postecoglou is a popular figure at the club, the decision to sack him is now becoming more a question of when not if.

Tottenham have already been working to identify a replacement and there have been reports that Bournemouth coach Andoni Iraola, Fulham's Marco Silva and Brentford boss Thomas Frank have been looked at.

However, GB News understands that the prime choice to replace Postecoglou is Crystal Palace coach Oliver Glasner.

Glasner had been on Tottenham's managerial shortlist prior to the appointment of Postecoglou and had been eyed as a replacement for Conte two years ago when he was at Eintracht Frankfurt.

There were concerns, though, at the time over his coaching after Frankfurt endured a difficult second-half campaign under his stewardship - which led to his resignation.

However, the Austrian has since reignited his reputation at Tottenham with his forward-thinking Crystal Palace that have become a fine attacking force despite a lack of resources.

Last season, a brilliant tail-end of form that saw the Eagles win six out of their last seven Premier League games saw them finish with 49 points - their highest-ever points tally.

And despite losing key player Michael Olise in the summer, Palace continue to impress and are on course to break last season's points tally.

Spurs chiefs have been impressed by Glasner's ability to develop players, noting that stars such as Marc Guehi, Adam Wharton and Eberechi Eze have gone up a level.

All three players have also been looked at by Tottenham scouts and are potential transfer targets ahead of the summer window opening.

Tottenham are not the only club in the race for the 50-year-old, though, with RB Leipzig in the race.

GB News further understands that Palace would be interested in hiring Kieran McKenna to replace Glasner, should the former LASK and Wolfsburg manager leave.

Meanwhile, Postecoglou has been surprisingly defeatist over his efforts to remain in charge of Spurs.

Prior to Tottenham's 1-1 draw against Frankfurt in the first leg of their Europa League tie on Thursday, the former Celtic boss spoke about reports he was set to get the chop.

"I think (it was written this week) that even if we win it, I'm gone anyway," Postecoglou said.

"The only reason I mention it is because I think that is the general sentiment."

The Europa League is the only chance Tottenham have at a trophy this season after early exits from the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.
