Spurs' wretched season continued at Craven Cottage on Sunday

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has provided his verdict following his side's 2-0 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday.

Spurs entered the match looking to build on their impressive Europa League victory over AZ Alkmaar on Thursday night.

But that didn't happen in west London, with Rodrigo Muniz and Ryan Sessegnon netting to consign their rivals to a 15th defeat of the Premier League season.

The nightmare result will raise more questions over Postecoglou and his suitability to the job.

With Tottenham 1-0 down, they were denied a penalty when Lucas Bergvall went down inside the box after a tackle from Calvin Bassey.

Yet Postecoglou, when asked about the incident, refused to criticise the decision not to award the spot-kick.

"I'll leave that to the officials, but it does seem that the fact we don't carry on hurts us at times," said the Australian.

"It was a difficult game. I don't think any team created too many openings.

"We probably had the best one at 0-0. Like I said, we conceded a soft goal that gave them the advantage.

"We made a lot of changes today which I felt might help the team. It's our challenge between now and the end of the season. European football and league games."

When quizzed further for his thoughts on the match, the former Celtic boss added: "It's a disappointing outcome. I thought up until they scored we were really on top of them.

"It was a tight game and we hadn't made a save at that point and they scored a really soft goal. Then the game got away from us. It's disappointing.

Fulham defender Sessegnon, meanwhile, was delighted with the result.

The Cottagers are pushing hard to secure European football and the former Tottenham star was delighted after propelling his old side to defeat.

He said: "It puts us right up there for the European spots, and it's nice to get a goal as well

"I was told to bring energy on the left-hand side. I was told to keep it tight but at the same time keep that threat going forward too.

"As a team we have one eye [on the European places] and we're taking it game by game, we just need to keep going.

"I enjoyed my time [at Tottenham], five years at the club. Playing-wise I didn't play as often as I'd have liked, mainly because of injuries, but I still respect the club."

He also said: "It's amazing, especially the way we won it. I'm happy to come on and contribute. It was a tough game and we took our moments when we needed to.

"Massive credit to the manager and as subs we want to come on and affect the game. Rodrigo is one of the best at it.

"I knew I could use my strength and speed to get ahead. I shrugged off Ben Davies a bit and I managed to get it in with my right.

"I spent five years at Spurs and I'm grateful for my time there. So that's why I didn't celebrate.

"I'm feeling good, sharp and strong. I just want to play a little bit more. When I get the chances I want to prove I can play at this level.

"We're taking it one game at a time but we've also got one eye on the European spots."
