Thomas Tuchel will be officially unveiled as England manager on Wednesday afternoon.

Thomas Tuchel will reportedly earn £3.4million more than what Gareth Southgate was initially given by the FA as the next England manager.

The FA opted to bring in Lee Carsley as an interim boss after Southgate left as England head coach in the summer to give them more time to find a permanent boss.

Carsley appeared to be in the running after the September set of Nations League fixtures, but defeat to Greece last week led to calls for the FA to look elsewhere.

Pep Guardiola was initially approached to see whether he would consider the England role with his Manchester City contract expiring next year.

But it was Tuchel who agreed to become the next England manager, despite suggestions he was being targeted by Manchester United as Erik ten Hag's replacement.

The German head coach has been out of work since leaving Bayern Munich in the summer, but has been tempted to take his first step into international football with the Three Lions.

He's the first foreign manager of the England national team since Fabio Capello left in 2012.

And Tuchel is set to be one of the highest-paid managers in international football with a yearly salary reported to be worth around £5million a year.

The 51-year-old will officially be unveiled as the new England head coach on Wednesday having penned an initial 18-month contract.

That will see Tuchel's current deal run until the end of the 2026 World Cup with qualifying starting in March next year.

Tuchel's starting salary with England is also vastly superior to the one Southgate was first given by the FA back in 2016.

Southgate was reported to be on a salary worth around £1.6m per annum, although that figure eventually rose to roughly £4.9m by Euro 2024.

That made him the highest-paid manager in international football with Julian Nagelsmann second on the list with the Germany national team on a salary reported to be £4.7m.

Tuchel will be under immediate pressure to deliver with England heading into the 2026 World Cup.

But he won't be taking the job at England until the New Year with Carsley supposedly remaining in charge of the final two Nations League group stage matches next month.
