EXCLUSIVE: Ray Parlour has opened up on the Three Lions boss

Ray Parlour has warned Thomas Tuchel that being England boss will 'get tougher' following straightforward victories over Albania and Latvia.

Tuchel was named as Gareth Southgate's permanent replacement back in October, months after the Three Lions lost the final of the 2024 European Championships.

Having allowed Lee Carsley to continue as interim boss, the 51-year-old then took charge of England for the first time last week.

Tuchel guided England to a 2-0 win over Albania, with Myles Lewis-Skelly and Harry Kane both on target.

And England then proceeded to beat Latvia 3-0 on Monday courtesy of goals from Reece James, Kane and Eberechi Eze.

Tuchel has done something Southgate couldn't by winning his first two matches in the job.

Parlour, speaking exclusively to GB News via NetBet Online Casino, has been pleased with what he's seen so far - but has also warned the new England boss that tougher tests lie ahead.

"He is direct and confident in his approach. He has won major tournaments and wants England to be free and play with no fear," he said.

"Two easy games for him to start. It will get tougher as England face the better teams, but overall, he has top players to pick from so he has done what is expected of him.

"No major difference at this stage, but hopefully, they will come when England are in the knockout stages of the World Cup, when tactical changes in game will be needed.

"I like the way Tuchel has been in his interviews so far."

Roy Keane gave Tuchel a C+ for his work so far. Parlour, when asked about that, added: "You are playing two average European countries, so there isn't much to gain from these apart from an understanding of players doing as the manager wants.

"It's so important for Tuchel to get to know the players and set about how he wants them to play.

"You can only say it's two clean sheets, a decent number of goals and Tuchel is able to see how the players are adapting to a new head coach.

"You are missing [Bukayo] Saka, [John] Stones and giving opportunities to [Dan] Burn, Lewis Skelly and [Jarrod] Bowen, so it's good to use these games to see how players can perform in an England shirt."

One player criticised after the European Championships back in the summer was Kane.

LATEST SPORTS NEWS:

The Bayern Munich striker struggled for consistency during the tournament, scoring three times.

Kane has, however, made a flying start to the Tuchel era by scoring in the German's first two matches.

Parlour, who made 10 appearances for England during his playing days, believes the former Tottenham star remains as vital as ever.

"Those calls for him to retire from international football were wrong," he continued.

Harry Kane

"Harry Kane is having a brilliant season for Bayern. He continues to lead the line so well for England and is first choice on the team sheet.

"He is our No 1 striker and as it stands, will be for the World Cup too.

"He looked fresh in both games, he got his goals and continues to break records. He is very experienced at international level and can help the younger players."
