Steve Bruce to miss Blackpool match after tragic death of four-month-old grandson

Blackpool confirmed the news in an official statement, expressing their condolences to Bruce and his family during this difficult time.

Blackpool released an official statement regarding Bruce's absence, saying: "The club can announce that head coach Steve Bruce will not be in attendance at tomorrow's fixture against Barnsley due to the tragic passing of his four-month-old grandson Madison."

The club expressed their support for Bruce and his family during this difficult time.

"Everyone at the football club send their love to Steve and his family," the statement continued.

Respecting the family's need for privacy, Blackpool added: "We ask that their privacy is respected as they come to terms with this sudden and unexpected loss in their family."

Steve Bruce's managerial career spans several decades and includes stints at numerous high-profile clubs.

Prior to joining Blackpool, he had a two-year spell at Newcastle United, departing in October 2021 following the club's Saudi-led takeover.

Bruce's most recent role before Blackpool was an eight-month tenure at West Bromwich Albion, which ended with the club struggling in 22nd place in the Championship.
