The fallen giants have got nowhere near the Premier League title since the Scot's retirement in 2013

Manchester United's new INEOS leadership is actively distancing itself from the club's illustrious past, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team reportedly "sick" of hearing about the glory years.

Sir Dave Brailsford, INEOS' director of sport, has made it an "obsession" not to reference the period when United dominated football.

The petrochemical company, which acquired a 27.7 per cent stake in the club for over £1billion, "want absolutely nothing to do with the past," according to The Mirror.

Brailsford believes the weight of past achievements is hampering the club's efforts to restore its former success.

In a striking development, some influential figures at Old Trafford now blame Sir Alex Ferguson for the club's 12-year decline.

Senior officials believe Ferguson's continued presence after his 2013 retirement prevented the club from embracing modern developments in coaching and scouting.

This criticism comes despite Ferguson's remarkable achievements during his 27-year tenure, which included 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups and two Champions League trophies.

The new regime's stance has already led to concrete actions, with the 83-year-old's multi-million pound ambassador contract terminated in October.

The move came as part of INEOS's dedicated cost-cutting measures amid high losses at the club.

A fresh wave of job cuts is set to hit Old Trafford, with up to 200 staff positions expected to be eliminated.

Employees have been summoned to a meeting at the stadium on Monday where the redundancies will be announced.

This comes just seven months after the board's previous restructuring, which saw 250 staff members lose their jobs.

United's current struggles continue to mount, with the club languishing in 15th place in the Premier League table.

Their latest disappointment came on Saturday when they found themselves two goals down against Everton.

Though Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte managed to salvage a point with second-half goals, the draw did little to improve their precarious league position.

United are next in action against Ipswich Town on Wednesday night.

They drew 1-1 with the Tractor Boys earlier in the season in Ruben Amorim's first match on charge with Marcus Rashford, who has since joined Aston Villa on loan, scoring the first goal of the 40-year-old's era.

Discussing his side's comeback on Saturday, Amorim stated: “We managed to recover second half. But we didn’t exist in the first half, so the feeling is disappointed.

"Not with the point, not with the recovery, but we need to play both halves to compete in the best way because at this moment we need to win.”

On the match with Ipswich, the Portuguese added: “We need to win.

"It’s a different game, we proved that we can make a very good game but then in the next game we have the momentum but don’t show the best way [to play] the game.

"So, what we need to is work during the week and do in the game what we work [on] in the week.”
