The Manchester United legend has already lost £100,000 in the business

Ryan Giggs' upmarket restaurant has gone bust owing nearly £500,000 in debts, according to official documents filed with Companies House.

George's Dining Room and Bar in Worsley, near Manchester, closed suddenly "with immediate effect" in February.

The business, which was placed into voluntary liquidation earlier this month, has left creditors facing significant losses.

Staff were informed of the closure via text message, with one employee telling The Sun: "It came totally out of the blue. We were all supposed to be working today and then we got the text messages through, we are all stunned."

The restaurant had been operating since 2014 when the former Manchester United legend opened it with two school friends.

New figures reveal that 22 workers are out of pocket to the tune of £39,986 in unpaid wages.

The Statement of Affairs filed with Companies House shows HM Revenue & Customs is owed around £117,000 for tax and National Insurance contributions.

Other major creditors include NatWest bank, which is owed £35,000.

There is also an outstanding £15,000 gas bill owed to British Gas.

The total debt figure stands at £495,145 according to the official documents.

When the restaurant closed, staff were reportedly told they would be paid any outstanding wages in "due course", as well as notice payment and redundancy pay "for those to whom it applies".

Giggs himself has lost £100,000 that he had invested in the business, making him the second largest creditor.

His business partner Kelvin Gregory is owed more than £53,000, while Bernie Taylor is owed almost £13,000.

The company behind the restaurant, RKB Ventures Ltd, was officially liquidated on March 7.

Smaller creditors include Boulinot Wines, which is owed £8,114, a local tea shop owed £755, and Grandads Sausages, which is owed £318.

Customers who had purchased gift vouchers were left concerned about refunds following the closure.

A spokesperson for the restaurant said they were "in the process of refunding all vouchers purchased which haven't been redeemed".

Giggs had previously spoken about how the venue fulfilled one of his lifelong dreams to open a restaurant with his old school pals.

"We've known each other for 30 years, and we always said it would be great to do something like this together," he said at the time.
