Manchester United have now lost six home Premier League matches this season.

Ruben Amorim has taken a savage swipe at his current crop of Manchester United players, branding them the 'worst team' in the history of the famous football club.

United got their first league win post-Christmas earlier this week with a dramatic comeback win over Southampton courtesy of an Amad Diallo hat-trick.

But they failed to take that momentum into the weekend against a tough-to-beat Brighton side.

Yankuba Minteh gave the visitors the lead inside five minutes with Bruno Fernandes levelling the match midway through the first half.

United continued to make chances to try and take the lead, but they were ultimately punished for missing the target with Kaoru Mitoma restoring Brighton's advantage.

Georginio Rutter took full advantage of an Andre Onana howler late on to wrap up all three points for Brighton on another disastrous day for United.

Amorim's side now sit 13th in the table and have lost even further ground on the European places.

And the Portuguese head coach held nothing back in criticising his squad after the match.

He said: "We are the worst team, maybe in the history of Manchester United.

"I know you want headlines, but I am saying that because we have to acknowledge that and change that."

Amorim also fears that he still has to win over the United fans after a disastrous start to his time in charge.

"In 10 games in Premier League, we won two. I know that," he added.

"Imagine what this is for a fan of Manchester United. Imagine what this is for me.

"'We are getting a new coach who is losing more than the last coach'."

And the United head coach has warned even tougher times ahead for the club before things begin to improve.

"That is clear. With me, that is clear. Because I'm not going to change the way I see the game. I'm very clear on that.

"The players are going to suffer, I'm sorry, the fans are going to suffer.

"I have one way of doing things, I know it's going to [bring] results. But we have to suffer these moments. I think it's very clear for everybody what we are going to do."
