"He wants the team to start channelling the same self-belief Luke showed in Friday's world final," the source said.
"Luke was unstoppable because he was determined to win. The players need to show the same courage against Liverpool."
The source added that victory against Liverpool would "cap the most memorable weekend for their most famous fan."
Littler secured a commanding 7-3 victory over Michael van Gerwen in Friday's World Championship final.
The Warrington teenager has strong connections to United, having been invited to watch the team train last January.
Littler expressed his desire to parade the Sid Waddell Trophy at Old Trafford, taking a playful dig at Liverpool after defeating Reds fan Stephen Bunting in the semi-finals.

United face a formidable challenge at Anfield, with Liverpool sitting five points clear at the top of the Premier League with two games in hand.
The contrast in form between the two sides could not be starker, with United having lost five of their last six league matches.
However, recent history offers some hope for United, who defeated Liverpool 4-3 in last March's FA Cup quarter-final.
Liverpool have lost just one game all season, highlighting the scale of the task facing Amorim's men.
United defender Harry Maguire was among those to congratulate Littler on social media, posting: "Ridiculous. Congratulations Luke the Nuke."
