Manchester United have lost five home league games out of seven under Ruben Amorim.

Ruben Amorim has promised Manchester United fans 'better things will come' after another disappointing league defeat on Sunday.

It's been a difficult start to life at Old Trafford for Amorim with United stuck in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

The Europa League offered some respite this week with United winning their fifth successive European match to finish third in the table.

United appeared to carry some of that momentum into the first half against Crystal Palace on Sunday with Kobbie Mainoo once again deployed as a makeshift No 9.

But nerves were soon evident the longer the game went on without United finding the net.

In contrast, Palace grew in confidence and found the opener just after the hour mark through Jean-Philippe Mateta.

The home fans grew frustrated as United failed to find an equaliser before Mateta added a second to secure all three points for Palace.

The result saw Palace leapfrog United in the table with Amorim's side languishing down in 13th.

Fans expressed their anger as the United players left the field, something Amorim had no problem with.

However, the Portuguese head coach asked for patience from the fans with the team going though a sticky patch.

"It's normal for the fans to feel negative, it is a hard season for them but football can change in certain moments," he said.

"I will prepare the next game and move forward. Better things will come."

Amorim felt his side performed better than the final result suggested and United weren't helped by another injury setback to Lisandro Martinez.

"The result is really bad," he added.

"The performance was a little bit better than the last games.

"We controlled the transitions quite well for Crystal Palace.

"We suffered two goals that we can avoid and the injury on Lisandro Martinez was tough for the team."

Amorim delivered a worrying update on Martinez's fitness, suggesting the defender looks set for another spell on the sidelines.

He added: "We are going to see in the next days but I think it is a serious situation. He is not only a great player but a strong character in the dressing room.

"He felt it and when you are a player, you know when it is something serious.

"We are here to help him in this difficult moment like he has helped us."
