The Three Lions won 2-0 in their Nations League clash on Tuesday night

Roy Keane has praised Lee Carsley after the England boss admitted to being 'out of his comfort zone' following the Three Lions' 2-0 Nations League win over Finland on Tuesday night.

The hosts were too strong for their opponents at Wembley, with Harry Kane scoring a brilliant brace to give his country all three points.

England have now won their first two matches under Carsley, who was appointed as Gareth Southgate's temporary replacement earlier this summer.

The 50-year-old is in the running to land the job on a permanent basis but, speaking after the result, admitted he was 'out of his comfort zone'.

Following a week where he courted controversy for refusing to sing the national anthem, Carsley honestly admitted: I definitely don’t feel comfortable, no. I’ve definitely been out of my comfort zone this international window.

“It’s been enjoyable but I’ve had to make sure that every single day I’m producing really high standards, as are the rest of the staff, and everyone seems to have responded.

“We’ve tried to do as good a job as we can.

"We’ve been fortunate to get two good results and it’s about building on that.”

And Keane, speaking on ITV, has now hailed Carsley for his admission.

“Yes he’s very honest. That’s what you like to see," said the Manchester United legend.

“He’s not trying to be someone he’s not. Good on him.”

Carsley has already shown he's not afraid to be brave, something that Southgate sometimes lacked during his time in the dugout.

He gave Rico Lewis a start at left-back, while Angel Gomes completed the full 90 minutes.

Carsley has also restored Jack Grealish to the starting XI, with the Manchester City star deployed at No 10 with Bukayo Saka and Anthony Gordon on the flanks.

England took a while to get going against Finland, with the Three Lions struggling to break their rivals down.

But it was fitting that Kane would step up, with the Bayern Munich star netting twice on his 100th outing for his country.

Kane was scrutinised this summer after struggling at the European Championships in Germany.

But the former Tottenham star was happy to take aim at his critics after scoring his 67th and 68th international goals.

"It was a big night for me, really proud. I want to score goals and help the team," he said.

"Whenever you are doubted, it makes you more hungry to prove people wrong. I always back myself to score goals and I am excited for the future.

"Nowadays as footballer you're going to get criticism, people talk about you as a player.

"I’ve always said that when things aren’t going your way to use that to motivate you and bring a hunger inside you.

"Not just to other people but to prove to yourself you can keep at the level. There will be a time, I’m not sure when, when the level will drop and you won’t feel the same.

"But whilst I keep feeling like this I want to keep pushing the boundaries. Come October I will be ready to go again."
