The duo were discussing current Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes

Roy Keane and Ian Wright engaged in a fiery debate on this week's 'Stick To Football' podcast over Bruno Fernandes' captaincy at Manchester United.

The heated exchange centred on Fernandes' leadership qualities as United languish in 14th place in the Premier League table.

Keane launched into a sensational about the Portuguese midfielder's captaincy.

Wright repeatedly defended Fernandes against Keane's criticism, insisting he is the one player who is "saving" the struggling club.

The former Manchester United captain wasn't having any of it, arguing that "talent isn't enough" when it comes to leadership.

Keane didn't hold back in his criticism of Fernandes and United's current form.

"They draw at Everton, it's like they won the cup. It's f***ing bizarre," Keane fumed.

The Irishman took particular issue with fans celebrating Fernandes, saying: "I see fans at matches and they're singing for Bruno and I see these boys and I'm thinking 'you're f***ing imposters.'"

When Wright attempted to defend the Portuguese midfielder, Keane was dismissive.

"Save us, they're 15th in the league, and he's saving them? Praise the lord," Keane retorted.

He added bluntly: "Bruno is a talented player but talent is not enough. What's he saving? 2-2 at Everton."

Wright was adamant that Fernandes deserves more credit for his contribution to the team.

"Who brought them back into the game? Who's bringing you back? Bruno is somebody who can actually do something to save you lot," he argued passionately.

The Arsenal legend went further, suggesting United's position would be even more precarious without their captain.

"If Bruno's not there, United are in the relegation places. It's not all on Bruno," Wright insisted.

This defence only seemed to irritate Keane further, who questioned where criticism should start if not with the team's captain.

The exchange highlighted the stark difference in how the two pundits view leadership responsibilities during a club crisis.

Keane pointed to Arsenal legend Tony Adams as his benchmark for captaincy.

"You sit here every week going Tony Adams was amazing. That's the captain we expect," Keane said to Wright.

The former United skipper questioned who should be held accountable if not the captain.

"At some stage, players have to look at themselves in the mirror. Listen you're 15th, 16th in the league," he stated.

When Wright refused to criticise Fernandes, Keane pressed him further.

"Of course you're not, who are you starting with then? The goalkeeper? Would you have a go at Maguire or are you too pally with people?"

Keane eventually stood up to physically demonstrate what he saw as United players' half-hearted pressing.

"I've done my bit. F**k off," he concluded dramatically.

Keane's frustration with United's current predicament was palpable throughout the exchange, despite admitting that he doesn't actually support them.

"Forget the board and all that for a second. The players will walk on the pitch, so who do you start pointing fingers at?" Keane demanded.

Wright remained steadfast in his defence: "You say who am I starting with, well I'm not starting with Bruno."
