Roy Keane's daughter Caragh has revealed her harrowing battle with lupus, an incurable autoimmune condition that left her nearly bed-bound four years ago.
The 29-year-old, who is the second-oldest of the Manchester United legend's five children, was forced to turn down her dream teaching position after receiving the devastating diagnosis.
"Life was over. (There was) no way out," Caragh told PA Real Life, describing the moment she learned of her condition.
The chronic illness, which also affects pop star Selena Gomez, causes severe inflammation and led to Caragh being essentially bed-bound for a month-and-a-half.

"When I was diagnosed, I mourned the person I had been and the person I felt I should have been," she said.
Caragh's symptoms were severe and wide-ranging, including extreme joint pain, blisters, and alopecia.
The situation became even more concerning when doctors suggested she might need chemotherapy to manage her symptoms.

She credits her parents, Keane and wife Theresa Doyle, for their crucial support during this period, stating: "I wouldn't be here without them."
"I had been experiencing fatigue and memory loss for about six months. Since your immune system is essentially attacking itself, you feel like you only have yourself to blame."
Determined to find a solution, Caragh began researching the connection between gut health and inflammation.
She discovered that switching to unprocessed, whole foods could make a significant difference in managing her condition.

"I started eating real whole foods so I focused on good meat, fish and healthy fats, veggies and fruits, gut-healing foods like bone broth and fermented food, and supplements," she explained.
The results were remarkable.
"I started noticing my hair growing back and all my blisters started fading on my face," Caragh said.
Her joint pain began to subside after several months of following the new diet.
