Los Blancos lead 3-2 from the first leg

Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior has led a £6.7million buy-out of Portuguese second-tier club FC Alverca.

The Brazilian winger will own between 70-80 per cent of shares in the club after spearheading a group of investors from his home country and Spain.

The deal was completed as Vinicius prepares for Real Madrid's crucial Champions League play-off against Manchester City.

FC Alverca confirmed the takeover in a statement: "Ricardo Vicintin has sold his qualified stake in the public limited company to a group of investors."

The club added that more information about the purchase would be communicated in due course.

The Portuguese club, based near Lisbon, currently sits second in Liga Portugal 2 and is eyeing promotion to the top flight.

Success would see Alverca join Portuguese football giants Sporting Lisbon, Porto and Benfica in the country's premier division.

The ambitious move comes after a remarkable rise for the club, which secured promotion from Liga 3 just last year.

The timing of Vinicius's investment could prove crucial as Alverca pushes for their return to Portugal's elite level of football.

Alverca's journey to this point has been marked by both highs and lows in their history.

The club previously competed in Portugal's top division for three seasons between 1998 and 2003.

However, financial difficulties led to the club folding for 12 months in 2005.

Their recent resurgence represents a remarkable turnaround from those troubled times.

The club's recovery has been particularly impressive given their complete shutdown just two decades ago.

LATEST SPORTS NEWS:

Their home ground, the Complexo Desportivo, has a capacity of 7,705 supporters.

The stadium will be hoping to welcome top-flight football once again as Alverca pursues their promotion ambitions.

The ownership change marks a significant milestone for the club, with the previous owner Ricardo Vicintin agreeing to sell his stake to Vinicius's investment group.

The timing of the deal is notable, coming as Vinicius focuses on Real Madrid's Champions League campaign.

The Brazilian star provided a crucial stoppage-time assist for Jude Bellingham in Real's recent 3-2 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad.

Real will be aiming to dump Pep Guardiola's side out of the competition, with the 2023 winners struggling for consistency this term.
