Real Madrid regret signing Kylian Mbappe and are 'gutted' about his performance levels since his arrival, it has been claimed.

After years of speculation the forward finally moved to the Bernabeu back in the summer after his Paris Saint-Germain contract expired.

Mbappe has notched seven goals for his new side in the time since, with five of those coming in LaLiga.

He will be hoping to add to that tally when Los Blancos face Celta Vigo tonight as they look to keep pace with Barcelona at the top of the table.

Yet it's now been claimed that Real are unhappy with Mbappe's performances since his summer arrival.

Journalist Romain Molina, speaking to Colinterview, said: "They regret bringing him in. I guarantee that. I have spoken about it off (the record).

"It hasn’t been at all what they were expecting. It was a whim of [Florentino] Perez. It was only Perez that wanted him.

"[Perez] has always liked the big players. He also has a filial relationship with him (Mbappe).,

"The club are gutted, firstly with his level (of performances), which is not at all at the expected levels, in the dressing room it isn’t great, that isn’t necessarily Mbappe’s fault though.

"I think Real have made a big mistake. He didn’t have a pre-season, he played instantly, unlike (Jude) Bellingham.

"When you see how (Mbappe) is physically at 25, you can’t explain it to me.

"The physical drop-off that he has had at 25, I have never seen that."

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez first tried to sign Mbappe when the striker was at Monaco.

They missed out on him in 2017, however, with the France international choosing to join PSG instead.

It appeared as though Real would finally land Mbappe in 2022, shortly after they'd won another Champions League title.

That didn't happen, however, with Mbappe opting to sign a new contract with PSG instead.

Finally, this summer, they were able to secure the 25-year-old's signature.

Yet with Real already three points behind Barcelona at the top of the table, his debut campaign at the Bernabeu hasn't gone to plan.

Meanwhile, Mbappe recently chose to sit out of international duty - with the France star only keen to play in the biggest matches for his country.

And Real boss Carlo Ancelotti has claimed the former PSG and Monaco man has benefitted from the rest.

Speaking ahead of the match with Celta Vigo, the Italian said: "He has taken advantage of the break to improve his condition.

"He is very well, happy and eager to return tomorrow and be important for the team. These 15 days have helped him a lot, because he has had time to overcome his injuries. Kylian Mbappe is a different player to the one he was before the break.

"At a tactical level his position does not change from how he has played in recent games. His left wing position may vary with Vinicius, but we have been focused on physical work.

"This break has been good for him and he looks very good to me."
