Portsmouth's match against Millwall was set to kick-off at 7.45pm on Wednesday.

Portsmouth have announced they've been forced to postpone their match against Millwall due to a power cut at Fratton Park.

The Championship clash was scheduled to take place at 7.45pm with Portsmouth aiming to climb off the bottom of the table with a win.

But the stadium on the south coast was plunged into darkness just minutes before play was scheduled to get underway.

Fans inside the 21,000-capacity stadium were forced to sit in darkness as the club attempted to fix the technical issue.

Power began to return 20 minutes after the scheduled kick-off time with full power back in the ground and players returning to the pitch to warm up.

However, Portsmouth announced nearly an hour later that the game was going to be postponed.

A statement released on X read: "Tonight’s match against Millwall has been postponed for safety reasons due circumstances beyond the club’s control.

"We will update fans further in due course."

There were loud boos reported from both sets of supporters when the postponement was announced over the stadium's tannoy.

Millwall wrote on X: "Millwall Football Club regrets to inform supporters that tonight's match has been postponed due to a power failure in the local area.

"We thank fans for their patience and support this evening.

"Fans in the away end will be safely escorted to the railway station once the home fans have left Fratton Park."
