Lee Carsley will reveal his first England squad as interim manager at 2pm on Thursday.

England begin life after Gareth Southgate next month in the Nations League and Lee Carsley will name his first squad on Thursday afternoon.

Southgate left his role as England head coach following the Euro 2024 final with Carsley announced as his temporary replacement.

Carsley will take charge of his first England camp next week as they prepare to face the Republic of Ireland and Finland in the Nations League.

The upcoming international break will likely act as Carsley's audition to take the job permanently and plenty might rest on the squad he chooses.

Carsley is no stranger to some of the players having managed the youth side since 2021 and leading them to glory in the 2023 Under-21 European Championships.

And the former Premier League star may want to put his own stamp on the current England squad as they look to the future.

GB News looks at eight players pushing to be a part of the England squad for matches against the Republic of Ireland and Finland.

James Maddison

The Tottenham midfielder has bounced back from the disappointment of missing the Euro 2024 squad with a promising start to the new campaign with two assists in as many games.

His creativity is something that was often missing in England's midfield unit at the Euros.

Morgan Gibbs-White

Someone who is no stranger to Carsley and was a key part of the Under-21's triumph in Georgia last year.

He showed his credentials with a well-taken winner for Nottingham Forest against Southampton last weekend.

Max Kilman

Aside from Marc Guehi and John Stones, the centre-back spots are very much up for grabs in the England squad and none are arguably more deserving than West Ham star Max Kilman.

Very much a late bloomer, the 27-year-old has hit the ground running with new side West Ham after his move from Wolves last year.

Morgan Rogers

Another who blossomed in the England youth set-up under Carsley's guideship.

Morgan Rogers has repaid Unai Emery's faith in him to start the campaign with some impressive displays in attack.

The 20-year-old looks ready for the step up to the senior side after scoring a brace in Borussia Dortmund's opening game of the season against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Emile Smith Rowe

The move to Fulham has rejuvenated Emile Smith Rowe, someone who was tipped as a future England star when he first burst onto the scene.

Still just 24 years of age, Smith Rowe can continue to grow into an option for England for years to come.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

The 26-year-old has the misfortune of playing in the one position England aren't short of options, but Wan-Bissaka appears to have rediscovered his best form at West Ham.

A starting spot may be out of the question but Wan-Bissaka could make a strong squad option.

Noni Madueke

All credit to Noni Madueke for shining amid the chaos at Chelsea but he's made it almost impossible for Carsley to ignore him after his hat-trick against Wolves.

The 22-year-old is another player who has worked closely with Carsley in the past.
