The Spaniard has opened up following yesterday's drab 0-0 draw at Old Trafford

Pep Guardiola has criticised the actions of Manchester United fans after they targeted Phil Foden with chants about his mother during Sunday's 0-0 draw at Old Trafford.

Manchester City had gone into the showdown hoping to claim all three points and boost their chances of securing Champions League football for next season.

Yet that didn't happen, with United marginally the better team as the shares were spoiled.

After the game, as players trudged down the tunnel, United fans were heard singing chants about Foden's mother, Claire Rowlands.

The 44-year-old was called a 's**g' and Guardiola, speaking in his post-match press conference, has now vented his fury.

"It's a lack of class," said the City boss. "But it's not United, it's the people, you know?

"We are so exposed, people who are on the screen in world football: managers, owners, and football players especially.

"Honestly, I don't understand the mind of the people involving the mum of Phil. It's a lack of integrity, class, and they should be ashamed."

Foden has a good record against United, having found the net six times against the Red Devils in derbies over the years.

But yesterday was an afternoon to forget for the England international, whose time on the pitch lasted just 58 minutes.

Foden was eventually replaced by Jeremy Doku. The winger fared no better, however, with City forced to settle for a point.

Discussing the result, Guardiola admitted that City weren't at their brilliant best - but still saw some positive things from his team.

“It’s what it is. Of course it would be better to win," added the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss.

“Old Trafford is Old Trafford. You always need a good performance to win.

“We tried to make a good build-up, get crosses really well and tried to control the situations.

“They can run and they were dangerous but always we had our chances.

“In the second half in the first 10 or 15 mins it was our best moment.

“The last three games I saw many good things, in the last two games and today and the passion when we lose the ball that we lost many times this season for many reasons.

“But with the ball always our strength will be with the position and we lost that today. We were not in the right position to hurt them.

“We have to be in one tempo and be in the right position. But we could not accelerate it because we were not in the right position, that’s why we missed a little bit our tempo to create more chances.

“Of course, Phil [Foden] had one chance, two or two shots from Kevin [De Bruyne] and one from Omar [Marmoush]. They had chances from transitions but I think it’s fair enough.

“We take the point and we move forward.”
