The former England star played for both clubs during his career in football

When you think of players to represent both Arsenal and Tottenham, chances are David Bentley will be one of them.

A product of the Gunners academy, he made nine appearances for the north London side before leaving for Blackburn Rovers in January 2005.

Bentley flourished at Ewood Park and, after three years of electrifying the Premier League, then earned a move to Tottenham.

He would end up helping Spurs secure Champions League football in his first season and, though he never quite lived up to expectations, is still remembered fondly on the white side of north London.

Fast-forward to now and Arsenal and Tottenham are set to do battle this Sunday.

It has the makings of a classic, with the rivalry cranked up several notches given the Gunners are now one of the favourites for title glory.

Yet Bentley doesn't have a favourite side to choose from out of the two. Speaking exclusively to GB News, via William Hill, he's happy to sit on the fence.

"Happily, say both," he said when asked which of the two teams he considers to be his favourite.

"I enjoy going to watch both teams play now and get treated well by both clubs.

"Growing up in the youth at Arsenal was great and you see what a top club they are

"Tradition is important for them and you look at what a job Mikel is doing for them, which is great to see.

"For me Gazza [Paul Gascoigne] was my hero growing up, so watched him a lot. Now I also go to Spurs and Ange [Postecoglou] has brought a positivity back after Jose [Mourinho] and [Antonio] Conte who both didn’t play the way the fans wanted."

When quizzed on what colour north London should be considered, Bentley then doubled down and said he couldn't call a winner for the weekend's clash.

"Look, Sunday’s game will be good to watch," he continued.

"Both sides have injuries and it’s after an international break.

"I can see this being a draw (so sitting on the fence). There will be goals, so why not predict a 3-3 entertaining game!"

Bentley, during his time in football, scored some stunning goals.

None is better than his volley for Tottenham in a memorable 4-4 draw with Arsenal back in October 2008, however.

And Bentley looks back on that effort, and the derbies he played in, with great fondness.

"It’s a great. The build up the week before is exciting and you can feel it in training. Everyone feels the buzz of a north London derby week," he added.

"The media are in town, the fans are excited and you can feel the passion everywhere.

"It makes training more intense and the buzz is brilliant. It is definitely different to other games and that is the way it should be.

"Yes, without a doubt [it's my favourite goal]. The build up to that game was good as it was Harry Redknapp’s second game in charge ( I think) but definitely his first north London derby. It was under the lights at Emirates so made the atmosphere better.

"To score a goal like that is one you remember for a long time. The game was electric and to finish 4-4 it was a memorable come back for Spurs, but a very entertaining game for the fans."
