Mohamed Salah had been linked with a mega-money move to Saudi Arabia

Mohamed Salah is closing in on signing a new contract at Liverpool to end months of speculation over his future.

Liverpool have been desperate to tie down Salah, whose deal is set to expire at the end of the season.

But as the year went on, there had been major fears that the Egypt international was getting ready to leave - with a huge money move to Saudi Arabia tipped.

However, according to The Times, the Reds are now growing more and more confident that the 32-year-old will pen a new contract at Anfield.

It is a significant boost for Liverpool, who are already facing one major exit in Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is nearing a move to Real Madrid when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Virgil van Dijk is the other superstar at the club whose deal is also coming to an end on June 30.

However, GB News sources can reveal that Van Dijk is also close to signing a new contract in a major boost to Arne Slot.

Salah has been instrumental this season for the Reds, who are 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League with seven matches to go.

In 31 appearances in the league, the Egyptian has scored an incredible 27 times as well as assisting 17.

Slot had been desperate to retain Salah, who had admitted earlier in the season that he was 'probably more out than in'.

That came in November, when the club had yet to offer the forward new terms - leading to complaints from the player's team.

Salah currently earns £350,000 a week but is yet to come to light the new terms on offer and whether or not he has accepted a wage decrease as his career winds down.

What is undoubted, however, is that the former Chelsea and Roma star is prepared to turn his nose up at a mouthwatering contract of offer in Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi Pro League had made no secret of their dream of bringing Salah to their league, where other superstars including Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Sadio Mane have already made moves.

In reports as early as last week, Saudi Pro League officials remained optimistic that Salah was keen on a move there but the latest news will be a major blow to their future plans.

Al-Hilal had been tipped as Salah's next destination as they eyed a new worldwide star to replace Neymar, who returned to Brazil and hometown club Santos earlier this year.

Liverpool rejected a whopping £150million offer from Al-Ittihad in 2023 but faced losing him for nothing this summer, which would have also seen Salah double his wages at least.

But the right-winger, who moved to Anfield in 2017, looks set to continue his legacy on Merseyside, where he is already regarded as one of their best-ever players.

In 394 appearances, Salah has scored a whopping 243 times in all competitions - putting him third on their all-time highest goalscorers.
