The Egypt international was the star of the show as his side won 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday

Recently, more and more football fans have started to take to social media to pine for the players of the past.

Some believe the current crop pale in comparison to those strutting their stuff a decade or more ago, while others are starting to lose interest given how this season's Premier League title race looks likely to end.

But one player whose quality can't be dismissed is Mohamed Salah.

He is a genius, a man with magic in his feet and a star who must be considered one of the greatest players in Premier League history after yet another electrifying display.

On Sunday, Liverpool travelled to Manchester City on a high.

Having no doubt watched Arsenal's shock 1-0 defeat to West Ham yesterday, they knew victory would move them 11 points clear at the summit - with 11 matches to go.

It is a position other teams will envy. And now, barring a sudden collapse, the Premier League title will be coming to Anfield come the end of the season.

Liverpool could have been forgiven for fearing what version of City would turn up.

Would it be the side that faltered in the Bernabeu in midweek as Kylian Mbappe ran riot and ended their dreams of Champions League glory?

Or would it be the team that had seemingly started to turn a corner after emphatically thumping Newcastle last week?

In the end, it was the former. City never really got going at the Etihad and, with no Erling Haaland in their starting XI, some of their fear factor was lost.

But much of their undoing was simply down to Salah and his enduring brilliance.

He scored their first goal of the match, with the 32-year-old's deflected strike sailing past Ederson and into the net in the 14th minute.

And then, in the 37th minute, Salah provided the assist for team-mate Dominik Szoboszlai.

City thought they'd netted when Omar Marmoush struck.

However, the Egyptian's effort was disallowed and they were unable to recover, despite dominating the ball and managing more shots than their opponents.

LATEST SPORTS NEWS:

All in all, this was a straightforward victory for Liverpool. A huge one that means the title race is effectively over with roughly three months of the season to go.

And Salah, come the end of the campaign, will likely gobble up every accolade possible.

He has 25 goals for the season in the Premier League. Consequently, he will likely have one eye on Haaland's record of 36 - which looked like it would never be done again when he managed that achievement in the 2022/23 season.

Salah also has a staggering 16 assists, too. To put that into perspective, that's six more than Mikkel Damsgaard, Antonee Robinson and Bukayo Saka.

As things stand, it's unclear where the Liverpool winger will be playing his football next season.

If the Reds have sense, it'll be Anfield. Salah is, quite simply, too good to let go.
