Michail Antonio will make an emotional return to West Ham's Olympic Stadium tonight ahead of their Premier League clash with Newcastle United.

The 34-year-old forward has not been seen at the stadium since suffering a broken leg in a horrific Ferrari crash in December.

Antonio will be presented to the home crowd before kick-off as Graham Potter's side look to make it three straight wins in the Premier League.

A special tribute banner will be unveiled by the Ironworks Alliance fan group.

Antonio suffered the horrific crash on December 7 when his £260,000 Ferrari smashed into trees.

The Jamaican international was trapped in the wreckage for over 45 minutes before being cut free by firefighters.

Distressing pictures of the mangled supercar leaked online, leaving supporters fearing the worst.

West Ham later confirmed Antonio was in a stable condition, but had suffered a broken leg requiring surgery.

The forward, who is out of contract at the end of the season, later reflected that the experience had taught him not to take life for granted.

The Ironworks Alliance fan group will unfurl a special banner in the Bobby Moore Lower stand to show support for West Ham's number nine.

"Once we became aware that Michail would soon be making his return to the stadium, we launched the crowdfunding campaign and worked with the club to make this possible," the group said in a statement.

"We are extremely grateful to all supporters who have contributed, allowing the West Ham United family to show Michail how much he means to us."

West Ham confirmed Antonio's appearance in an official statement: "We're welcoming Michail Antonio back to London Stadium tonight as he makes a pitchside appearance before the Newcastle game."

The club has asked supporters to be in their seats by 7:50pm, ten minutes before kick-off, to participate in the tribute.

Antonio will receive a warm pre-match welcome as he makes his first public appearance at the stadium since the accident.

Antonio is now back running as part of his rehabilitation programme following the December accident.

The West Ham star has not yet given up hope of making a return to action before the end of the current campaign.

However, fans will have to wait longer to see their number nine back in competitive action.

Tonight's emotional appearance will be strictly in a non-playing capacity as he continues his recovery from the broken leg.
