Mary Earps called out Nike at the Women's World Cup for not selling her replica England shirt.

Mary Earps has revealed she's received a commitment from Nike that her England kit fiasco from the Women's World Cup will "never happen again".

Nike faced plenty of criticism for not selling Earps' England replica jersey from the summer's tournament.

The mishap was amplified even further given Earps' role in helping England make it through to the World Cup final.

Earps was left "hurt" that fans were unable to buy her replica jersey, with some purchasing an outfield shirt and putting the goalkeeper's name and number on the back of it instead.

Replicas of Earps' kit with Manchester United had also sold out last season, but Nike were not willing to budge on their original strategy of not selling the goalkeeper jersey.

They eventually did buckle to public pressure in October with the shirts selling out within hours of them being made available.

And they sold out again when England supporters were given another chance to purchase the goalkeeper jersey before Christmas.

Earps has spoken of her pride in getting Nike to overturn their original decision and has received a promise from the kit manufacturer that it won't happen again.

“It was more fighting for the principle than anything,” she said.

“It’s about the message being sent out before being really damaging and now you don’t have that.

"Representation, visibility, is so important and [now] young girls or adults or whoever wants the shirts can have access to them.

“I’ve had that commitment from Nike that it will never happen again and I’m sure other sports brands will follow suit.

"OK, we might be complaining there’s not enough, but I’d take that complaint over there being absolutely none, any day of the week.”

Earps was speaking after being crowned this year's Sports Personality of the Year, fending off Stuart Broad and Katarina Johnson-Thompson.

It's the second consecutive year an England women's footballer has won the BBC award after Beth Mead took the trophy in 2022.

But the England shot-stopper is not resting on her laurels with a personal target to add even more silverware to her trophy cabinet.

“I’m a driven, hungry athlete. I want to win all the trophies there are on offer and I don’t want to stop until I’ve got a full cabinet,” she added.

“The other side of me realises that life is a lot bigger than that and football, sport is a vehicle for change.

“I believe we can all change the world even in a small way by using our voices, having strong values and doing the right things. In whatever I do I try to have integrity and hopefully that will leave a legacy for many years to come.

“I feel like [the struggle for female athletes] is par for the course. There’s always adversity. Those battles have always been ongoing and will continue and I’m not sure if women’s football is stronger for them.

"I just think we’re very good at coming together when there’s injustice, so that’s what sets us apart. We’ll keep fighting to make the right changes."
